Classes

We offer kids sewing classes and private sewing lessons in Jacksonville, Florida.

Kids Classes

We typically put together sewing classes for kids age 8 to 18 though we make an effort to group students by age. Maximum 8 Students per class.

Introduction to Sewing Classes are structured around an 8 week course. The price is $225.00 (Including a Sewing Kit) and covers one two hour class a week for 8 weeks. Courses focus on different skills depending on the students skill level: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Students work at their own pace. By the end of each course every student will have completed at least one project though typically students finish several. Also, at the end of the Introductory course your child will receive a certificate of completion.

Introductory Sewing Class

All new students must start with an consecutive 8 week Introduction To Sewing course. This course costs $225.00 and includes a sewing kit. This sewing kit has all of the basic sewing tools that every student needs. One of the classes is a field trip to the fabric store to teach students how to choose fabrics, patterns, materials, etc. By the end of this course your child will have finished at least one to three projects and will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Sewing Classes

For those who have already been through our introductory course, Kids Make Clothes also has Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Classes to fit your child's skill level and comfort level. These are consecutive courses at a cost of $160.00 per month for Beginner, $180.00 per month for Intermediate and $200.00 per month for Advanced Classes.  Each course level has assignments that focus on a particular set of sewing skills and allows them to take on projects that require those new skills.

Our classes are kept small to allow for one on one instruction and assistance. If your child does not feel comfortable advancing to the next level yet they can take a repeater class at a particular skill level. This will allow them to continue receiving teacher supervision with their projects until they feel they are ready to progress to the next level.

Additional  Costs

  • Each student is responsible for purchasing patterns, fabric, and other materials for each project. Costs are typically between $10.00 to $20.00 dollars per project depending on your choice of fabric. We have lots of great tips on saving money on materials.

  • Students in our Introductory Sewing Class will have a *sewing machine provided for them in class at no additional cost, however we highly recommend them getting or bringing their own sewing machine so that they can practice at home.

  • Students in our Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Classes should have their own sewing machine. Typically, you can find a good machine for $75 to $100. Students can have a *sewing machine provided for them in class at a cost of $10 per class ($30.00 per course).

Adult Sewing Classes

While we mainly have classes for kids, we've found that parents sometimes catch the sewing bug and want to get involved too. With this in mind we occasionally put together adult classes. We also encourage parents to take a sewing course with their child.  If you're interested in setting up an adult class please let us know.  We offer "Girls Night Out" Sewing Classes for small projects or any type of small project you would like to make with friends.  Click on our News tab and see what Adult classes are available.

Private Classes AND GIRL SCOUT PROJECT MEETINGS

Specials events and private classes can be arranged. Private classes are one on one for personal teaching.

Girl Scout sewing projects for meetings are a lot of fun!  We have several projects to choose from and are reasonably priced. If your Girl Scout Troop wants to receive their "sewing patch" please give us a call and make a reservation at least two weeks in advance prior to the meeting.

All students must have their parent/guardian complete, print, and sign an application/waiver.
